I'm older than the market this is aimed at, however I enjoyed it very much. Teen Jackie King is going through the difficulties of a move to a new town, attempting to make new friends and then come to terms with the fact she is a little different. Well written with a good and rather dark story line. Looking forward to reading and reviewing the next book in the series.Tags : Angel Kiss [Laura Jane Cassidy] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Angel Kiss Laura Jane Cassidy 9780141331775 Books Reviews
This is defietly the best mystery books i've ever read! Its impossible to know whats going to happen next. . . . .
What do her dreams mean?
Why is she getting them?
What will happen with Nick?
The book was good - i could'nt put down, and had it read within a day!
The end was so unexpected and surprising.
This is a book that all girls should read!!
Angel Kiss is one of the funniest and spookiest page turners I've read for a while - in fact, I was so hooked, I finished it in just two sittings. Life had to go on hold for a while I had more important things to consider, like, would Jacki end up with Nick? Who was Beth and why did she keep cropping up? Would the irritating Sarah win the beauty pageant? And who is the murderer?
Laura Jane Cassidy weaves an exciting tale, from the viewpoint of Jacki, a typical music, fashion and boy obsessed teenage girl with a not so typical secret.
Rather than being annoying, Jacki is an extremely likeable character; she's the kind of girl you know you could trust, the sort of girl you want to hang out with. Her insecurities, reactions, quirks and obsessions draw you in and make you want to help her solve the mysterious events that surround her life. In fact, it's the way you can relate to Jacki that creates the pace, pulling you through the story at a riotous speed.
And it's not just Jacki that's perfectly constructed; from confident and unpredictable Nick to quirky fashion designer Lydia or the thoughtful and reliable Colin, the characters are exciting, intriguing and completely believable.
I also love the musical element that threads it way through - the song lyrics are great and pretty moving and perfectly reflect the mood and events as they happen. The song about the bag had a completely surprising relevance - watch out for that one.
The supernatural element is cleverly handled, giving the right amount of spookiness and intrigue. I honestly couldn't read it alone in the dark (but you might be braver than I am. An as for surprises - this book is full of them. I bet you're not prepared for the ending.
This is a fabulous debut and I'm already waiting for the follow up. If you like something a little different, a little edgy, which includes humour, music, fashion and/or supernatural elements, then this is for you. But make sure you only start reading it if you have enough time to read it in one go. You won't want to put it down.
The part I enjoy most about Laura's writing is that it is very modern, and she includes relevant, current subjects. She captures how teenagers act today, what they wear, and refers to current bands like Paramore and Metallica. It helps me to relate and connect more to the story; I could picture what she was describing and hear the music to go with it. (Since I also love my iPod and take it with me everywhere).
The pace of the story is perfect. I found this a very young read, Laura's writing isn't very deep and the chemistry she creates isn't very captivating - but it's still enjoyable. Colin is definitely my favourite character in the story - his quirkiness and the 'bff' role had me giggling whenever he was around, though I could still relate to and enjoy Jacki's journey.
Yes, I would read her 2nd book, Eighteen Kisses, just to see where the story goes, and how Jacki grows and handles all the new aspects of her life that she discovers during Angel Kiss. A good, easy read.
Covers many teen issues. Sadly the references to current popular bands and trends date this book. Lends itself to sequels.
I started the book last night and i couldn't let it go until i finish it, i simply loved it, Jackie is a great character and Colin too, I can't wait to read more books from Laura because she's so talented and i love her )
